Happy New Year!
We missed many of you the week before Winter Break due to the fire sprinkler malfunction that soaked the entire Media Center. The valve inside one of the sprinkler heads failed and all of the water in the fire suppression system wound up in the Media Center, IT Lab, Counselor Suite, Music Suite and the Administrative Offices.
What a mess! Unfortunately, we lost over 700 books, supplies, puzzles, games and maker space supplies. We also lost the soft seating, area rugs and a couple of computers. Many thanks to Ms. Harris and Mrs. Dent for helping sort through and dispose of many of the sodden materials. Thanks also to my teammates Mrs. Bell and Mr. Burrell for picking up morning and lunch enrichment classes and to Mrs. Floyd for covering the Monday morning block when I needed to don my librarian hat and meet with the clean up crew.
The silver lining is this...we get to reinvent the Media Center space. Start fresh. A clean slate, if you will.
So, we have switched up the instructional areas and shrunk the circulation desk footprint.. Our gathering spot is now in the former Reference section. Soft seating (reading area) will go between the fiction and nonfiction sections. Hopefully, 10 new tables on wheels will arrive before the end of the year, along with a giant portable interactive board we can move anywhere in the Media Center. We will also have money to replace the items lost to the flooding. This is your chance to give input on books, space use and other things at The River.
