Our Mission To create a community of life-long learners through fostering a love of reading and equipping students with the skills necessary to succeed in today's digital world.
Resources In the Learning Commons, we offer flexible instructional areas, desktop computers and tablets, cozy reading areas and a maker space. Our collection of 16,000 items includes books, magazines, videos, DVDs, digital audiobooks, equipment and instructional materials to support the curriculum and personal information needs.
Students and teachers can choose books and magazines for pleasure reading, research to find information on a specific topic, work on projects, check out materials, and so much more. The Learning Commons is the hub of school and often serves as the meeting spot for many events held @ The River.
Hours We're officially open from 7:20 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. daily, although many of our students love to stop in to say, "Good Morning!" on their way to breakfast. We are part of the enrichment rotation, which means we see half of the classes during Block A rotation and the other half during Block B rotation. When the Learning Commons is needed for a special event, we take our instructional activities to the classrooms. Book exchange is typically handled individually or in small groups on a student's Reading Center day. Teachers are welcome to bring small groups (4-5 students max) down in order to oversee appropriate book selection. Our 2nd grade teachers find this particularly helpful to ensure students choose books on their reading levels. We do our best to match readers with good fit books, but teachers are the best judge of their students' reading levels.
Library Materials Policies
Students may check out two books. Extremely popular titles are limited to one at a time.
Books may be kept for two weeks.
Overdue fines are not charge; however, overdue materials must be returned before checking out new books.
Books and items checked-out to a student are his/her responsibility. Parents/guardians are expected to pay for or replace any lost or badly damaged library books.
